Where’s the rest of the site? Well, we moved in 2005, from New Hampshire to Oregon. It takes a lot more effort than you might think to move three racks of servers without anyone experiencing any down time! We took our old site down when we moved, intending to put up a fresh new look once we got settled, and we haven’t quite gotten there yet. You know, it’s that “the cobbler’s children always need shoes” thing. The client sites come first. furfly, in a nutshell, is a small business that builds, maintains and hosts websites. We have big clients (some are listed below) and small ones. Most of our sites are based on OpenACS, an open source web toolkit; Django, a Python Web framework that’s also open source; or WebObjects, Apple’s powerful Java web services platform. But we use the best tools for the job, whatever that might be. We always strive to make the technology fit the task instead of the other way around. We have only one rule and that’s “we don’t do Windows”. It’s partly ideological but mainly practical; we don’t have the expertise and we don’t get enough requests for it to make it worth our while.
